About Me

Who is Madelein ?

Potter. Author. Keeper of Rack #120.

I make handmade pottery for people who love good food and good company.

My journey started with words. I've published a steamy romance novel, which taught me that life is better when you embrace passion, process, and a little bit of whimsy. Now I also create curves and craft companions for your kitchen counter. Pottery started for me as a hobby, but I fell so in love with clay and shapes that one night I even dreamed I was driving my car, and then my steering wheel suddenly turned into a pottery wheel.

kleinbakkies.co.za is a small corner of the internet for handmade little bowls with crooked edges and no shame.

You can use your little bowl for olives, rings, salt, snacks, keys, lemon pips, secrets, or that one little screw you just can’t bring yourself to throw away.

Welcome to my world of little bowls, crappy bowls, and ugly-as-hell bowls.

The Book Connection

I still love stories! If you're a fan of romance novels, you might recognize my name from the Afrikaans romanza shelves. My debut book is titled: "Sjef van haar hart". Writing and pottery feed the same creative spirit in me. Both require patience, vision, and a love for creating something that brings joy to others. Book

What is #120 ?

You'll notice that underneath every single pot I make, there is an inscription: #120.

This is my signature, but it's also a memory. In the pottery studio I work in, #120 is the shelf number of the cupboard allocated to me. It's my home base. It's where my clay rests, where my tools live, and where every pot begins its journey before it reaches you.

Why Small Pots?

I specialise in small, functional pottery. Why? Because I believe the best moments happen over shared snacks - The romance of small bites. (grrrrr)
